Mia Morris OBE has been a cultural activist within the Black British communities for the past four decades, and the Black History Maker magazine that she compiles and edits reflects her commitment towards profiling the achievements that Black people have made and continue to make towards British society. Supporting the ongoing publication of the Black History Maker magazine is vital in the context of resisting and challenging structural racism that has been mediated by the multiracial response towards Black Lives Matter across the African diaspora, and is therefore relevant for everyone.

Black History Maker is one of those annual publications that is central not only to Britain’s Black communities but all communities particularly students. Everyone can learn from and celebrate the achievements by many Black British individuals. It's author and editor, Mia Morris is Black British treasure.

The great Nigerian writer, Chinua Achebe, spelt out the need for Africans at home or abroad, in the diaspora to police their own history and not rely on others to do it for us. “Until the lions have their own historians,” said Achebe,

“ then the story of the hunt will always glorify the hunter.”

Black History Maker speaks to that undeniable truth, and it is a powerful blessing and a virtue that it does so.

At the heart of the movement to build and promote Black History Month you’ll find Mia Morris. With energy and enthusiasm she supports the dissemination of knowledge with the same verve now as she has for the last 40 years. She remains to go to person for celebrating the achievement of Black people and the contribution of the Black community to British society. I fully support the continuing publication and development of her Black History Month magazine as an important part of the on-going fight for acknowledgement and resistance in a world all too ready to tell only a selected history. Black history is human history and all those who struggle for its rightful recognition need to be supported.
